Brains Battle : Quizzing to the Top

Bhavan's Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad organised “Labyrinth 2024 Arcanum 2.0" Inter-School Quiz Competition on 20th June 2024,Saturday.The event was inaugurated by the Chief guest, Dr A Akshay Subramaian , renowned Quiz Master by lighting the lamp. Sri E Ramankutty, Director BVB, Kochi, Kendra, Smt. Kalyani N P, Principal Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya ,Kakkanad.,Sri Hariram M V, President, PTA, Smt Jyothi P, Smt Indu S, Vice Principals and Smt. Jyothirmayee P, Assistant Vice Principal were part of the inaugural function. The curtain raiser Manjeeradwani,  a vibrant dance performance by the students of grade XI set the tone for the event. Dr A Akshay Subramaian ,  addressed the gathering  and remarked that the three things that make this event unique is; the quiz for the students, by the students and to the students. Sri E Ramankutty, Director, graced the occasion with his inspiring words. Sri Hariram M V ,President, PTA offered felicitation. Kumari Devasena Menon of grade XI welcomed the gathering and Master Akshaj M Nampoothiri of grade XI  proposed the Vote of Thanks for the inaugural function.

Smt.N A Vijayalakshmi , Education Officer, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Kochi Kendra ,the Chief Guest for the valedictory function awarded the trophies to the winners . Around  17 schools in and around Kochi participated in this mega quiz event. Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara lifted the Overall Championship Trophy. The First Runner-up Trophy was bagged by Vidyodaya School,Thevakkal and the Second Runner-up Trophy  was bagged by Bhavan’s Vidya Mandir, Girinagar. Kumari.Sreenanditha Vinoj and Kumari.Alka R Nair of grade XI   delivered the address of welcome and proposed the vote of thanks  for the Valedictory  Function.

In connection with 'Van Mahotsav' saplings were planted at Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya campus on July 1st .Sri E Ramankutty, Director ,Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan , Principal, Sri K Suresh, Vice Principal ,Smt. Jyothi Pradeep,PTA President ,C S Jayachandran, NCC Cadets ,Parents , teachers and other staff members were part of the celebration. Dr. Induchoodan N. C, Former Deputy Conservator of Forests, Kerala Forest department rendered the day’s message on the virtual platform and told the students about the importance of planting and protecting trees. The Former Scientist in Ecology in Kerala Forest Research Institute said that tree planting is a divine gesture to save our mother earth and also added that trees are essential for a well-balanced eco system. He told the students to consider it as their responsibility and urged them to stay away from activities that hurt ‘Mother Earth ‘.

As part of the celebration, a documentary on ‘Van Mahotsav was also presented in the virtual assembly. A videowhich shot the tree planting gestures of the students was also shown .MsIndu P, Music teacher set the music for the background song which was rendered by the students and it was penned by MsBeena P V ,teacher Dept of Malayalam. A poem ‘Ithiri Snehathin Aksharangal’ by the great poet O N V Kurup was recited by Master Tarun Nair of class 4. Initiated by Dr K. M. Munshi in 1950, the then Union Minister for Agriculture and Food and the Founder of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, this tree festival is celebrated at the school every year to spread awareness on forest conservation.

The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed at Bhavan’s Adarsha Vidyalaya, Kakkanad on 26 th June, 2021 .The school organized webinars for the students to create awareness against drug abuse .Class XI students were addressed by Dr.M.N.Venkiteswaran, Medical SUPDT and Head of Pediatrics, St Joseph’s Hospital, Manjummel and spoke to them on the perils of drug abuse ,its impact on individuals and society at large. The child and adolescent consultant told that drug addiction has become a worldwide problem especially in teenagers. He warned the students to stay away from drugs because drugs affect our health, lead to academic failure, and jeopardizes safety.

In an another webinar on ‘Anti –drugs and Misuse of Mobile in Children’,Circle Inspector ,Sri K Dhanapalan, Janamaitri Police ,Thrikkakara addressed the students of class XII and told them to stay away from such social evils like drugs , mobile phone addiction etc.and sought students’ cooperation to eliminate such dangers from the society.

Mr.Ganeshan, Excise Dept explained the evil effects of drugs and motivated students to stay away from it, while addressing the students during the virtual assembly. Being a resource person associated with ‘Vimukthi‘ ,he shared a few real life experiences which were real eye openers for anyone who listened to him.He urged the children to chase their goals ,spend time with the family members and embrace life and not drugs to have a successful and happy life ahead. The message was indeed very inspiring and Mr.Ganesan made it more interesting for the students by reciting a few lines from Malayalam poems which also implied the consequences of drugs.
